Much has been made of the fact that Ferrari have opted not to run their 2002 specification chassis in Australia this weekend, but are instead relying on the development version of the F2001 car that took Michael Schumacher to the Championship last year. BMW Williams driver Juan Pablo Montoya for one feels that the move is not a good one for Ferrari.
"I think it's a negative move, but a positive one for us," Montoya said. "If you think about it, they are starting off the season with last year's car. If we had brought last year's car we would have been 10th on the grid this weekend."
What Montoya seems to have dismissed is that the Ferrari chassis being brought to Melbourne is a heavily revised version of the car that Schumacher triumphed in at Suzuka last time out. However, Montoya has a point in saying that it may well give Williams a chance to get a jump on the defending Champions in terms of pure pace. Only time will tell.
