Williams have a history of refusing to moodcoodle their drivers, although they have may been more supportive if Montoya hadn't already announced he was leaving the team for McLaren at the end of the season.
Nevertheless, could you imagine Ross Brawn not leaping to Michael's defence if Schumi's and Montoya's roles were reversed on Sunday?
Indeed, it's worth recalling that when Montoya forced Schumi off the track during last season's European GP, Schumi defended the move, saying it "was no problem", while an irate Brawn described the move as "mad" and "very crude", while adding: "He is not a classy driver in that respect."
One further point: when Schumi and Montoya clashed that day at the Nurburgring, the German remarked: "I would have done exactly the same thing in his position."
Ten months later, it could be argued that Schumi was as good as his word...
